Potty preparation

Before pushing the ‘potty’ to your child;there are a few potty preparation steps for exposing the ‘toilet’ or ‘potty’ to your child.A child which is more familiar with the bathroom and its equipmet will be likely to be trained easily compared to the one that isnt.
Step 1
- Bring your child into the bathroom with you.
- Let fathers set example for boys and mothers for girls.
- If not, siblings are good leaders
Step 2
- Discuss and talk to your child regardinh the feeling of ‘being wet’,'before wet’ and ‘going to be wet’.These are all the sensation /feelings which will help them identify when they would need the potty or toilet.
Step3
- Changing the diaper in the toilet to set association to the child between ‘nappy change’ and toilet
Step 4
- Use specific words eg ‘urinating’ or ‘have to go to toilet’.Avoid words that can make your child think that their bodily function is disgusting;(eg words like ’smelly/yucky’)
Step 5
- Talk about the advantages of potty training;-no more nappy rashes, independency;the pleasure of being clean!
- Allow your child to independently lower or raising their training pants
Step 6
- Allow your chikd to flush the toilet so he or she will not be afraid of the sound.
