Things to Do With Paper Cutters

There are many projects and uses for paper cutters in schools, at home and at the office. As well, there are many different types of paper cutters on the market; there are manual, electric and hydraulic paper cutters, guillotine cutters, business card cutters, rotary trimmers and stack cutters. Those are just a few of the different types of paper cutters available, but more than likely, you will normally choose the cutter that best suits your project. So, what can you do with paper cutters? There are some ideas listed below, for starters, and then you can decide what type of cutter you will need.

General office papers can be cut with paper cutters whether you need to cut one sheet or 700. Most of the daily cutting tasks in the office can be done with a guillotine paper cutter much like the ones found in schools. If your office is accustomed to cutting high volumes of paper at a time, a better bet would be to buy a stack cutter. These types of cutters allow more sheets of paper to be cut at one time.

Business cards can be made with hand-held cutters or tabletop guillotine cutters, however, they even have a specific type of business card cutter available for you to purchase. These cutters can cut a page of laser printed cards into many individual business cards in just a small amount of time. This could potentially save your company a lot of money, time and effort in the long run.

Make employee badges for all of your workers by using a paper cutter. A good guillotine paper cutter will do this job easily for you. Your badges will be cut with clean edges ready to laminate and hand out. If you have already printed several on a single sheet of paper and laminated them, you can still use a guillotine cutter to cut them into individual badges.

Photographs and memorabilia to use in photo albums is a good use for paper cutters. Making pictures fit into your album will require accurate dimensions so that the edges aren’t overlapping or too long for the page. Choose a paper cutter with an attached ruler in order to get a precise measurement and size that fits perfectly.

Scrapbooking can be another project where you will need the aid of paper cutters. The craft store sells many different forms of paper cutters to be used in scrapbooking like straight, curvy and zigzag styles. You should first decide on a design plan for your pages and then get the paper cutters necessary to achieve the look.

Paper cutters can also be used when making sale advertisements and advertising flyers for your business or store. The size and shape of your signs or flyers can be creatively designed with special paper cutters, if you choose. However, the guillotine paper cutter will give your flyers a professional look with clean, crisp edges. Brochures and pamphlets can be crafted with the use of paper cutters, too.

Another thing that you can do with paper cutters is to cut wrapping paper when wrapping gifts at Christmas or other occasions. A manual or battery-operated handheld cutter will work well and is less strenuous than using everyday scissors.

Make your own greeting cards. You can use paper cutters to make your own Christmas or Birthday cards by printing two or more on a sheet of heavy paper or construction-like paper. People love to receive items that are hand-made and personalized because you spent not only money, but your time as well.

An additional item that you may want to use while you are making any of the above projects is a corner rounder. Corner rounders come in sizes from a simple and small craft-style rounder to a higher-capacity industrial corner rounder for larger uses.

The Fun of Creating Alternative Bead Jewelry

A lot of people enjoy designing and creating their own bead jewelry these days because it’s a challenging and rewarding way to create something beautiful and useful at the same time. Most home made jewelry is created with beads bought from an online beading store or craft store, but there are more and more people who are pushing the bounds of jewelry making by using alternative materials to create some amazing jewelry.

Creating jewelry out of objects that are not primarily designed for jewelry making can be physically and mentally challenging. The first step is often figuring out how you’re going to string or mount your items on a string or chain and the next challenge is working out how you’re going to make it both beautiful and wearable at the same time!

Here are some of the many things you can create jewelry from:

Dried Beans and Seeds: Almost everyone has tried to make popcorn strings for a Christmas tree, and the principals behind using beans and seeds at beads is not much different. The key is to pick beans that are durable and dependable. To thread or string beans you’ll probably have to either use a tension mounting system of some sort or drill a hole through them. After that you will probably want to protect your beans or seeds with a spray on sealant to make sure they don’t dry out and fall apart.

Paper Bead Jewelry: This idea dates back from the Victorian times when making beads out of paper was a popular hobby. You can make paper beads by cutting out strips of paper and rolling them around a toothpick or similar small tube and then gluing the end. You may want to seal these as well so they don’t fray and get damaged at the first hint of humidity or moisture. You can experiment with different types of paper, different colors and even different shaped strips of paper when making your beads. Make a bunch and string them together!

Jewelry from a Hardware Store: This is an idea which a lot of people have taken and run with. Metal washers, screws, bolts and other fasteners can sometimes make for some incredible looking beaded jewelry! A visit to a large home improvement store can give you lots of ideas for making jewelry out of hardware items.

These are just some of the many alternative items you can make jewelry from. If you already know how to make your own bead jewelry then you probably already possess the skills and even the tools to make some of your own alternative bead jewelry!

Visit the Bead Jewelry Blog for more examples of bead jewelry made out of alternative materials and to find more jewelry making ideas, news, trends, tutorials and beading business advice.

Some Great Portrait Painting Tips

You mat have painted quite a variety of paintings which include the landscapes, abstracts, surreal but once you start painting the portraits, you will find them the toughest one of all the other types. Hence you should master in all the techniques before you start the portraits.

There are few things, which are quite essential for making the portraits perfect. Portraits are all about painting the people around you on the canvas and this also includes creating the perfect expression on their faces.

When you start with the portrait try and concentrate on the eyes first. They are probably the most important part of the features of one’s face. This is the reason why they need to be perfect. In fact if the eyes are painted correctly, the portrait will start looking like the real person.

Start drawing the eyes from one corner and gage the distance of them from the nose. Once you are sure about the positioning you should start drawing the eyebrows. Then gradually move towards the outline of the face that is surrounded by the hair.

Once you are done with the eyes, it is time to move to the rest of the face. This is a brilliant idea to make an outline of all the features of the face and then gradually work on making them perfect. This is the way to maintain the balance among the various parts of the portrait.

The colors are very important in case of making a perfect painting.

The general rule of coloring the various parts of the portrait is to give them the right shades that are close to the real color of those parts. The fingertips, nose and the upper portion of a human being is often reddish in color as they have minute blood vessels which carry blood and redden the region.

This is the reason why you should also use a reddish tone in those places. At the same time the tone will become little bluish or greenish at the bony regions of the face like forehead.

The color of the flesh can be perfectly made using the colors like burnt sienna or umber.

These are all reddish or cool shades of brown. They basically create the dark shadows on the face. If you wish to make the shadows lighter then viridian green or French aquamarine blue can be the right choice. You should put some whitish shade instead of perfect white to paint the white portions of the eyes.

While painting the portraits you will not be able to find the colors in the market, which are often ready to use. This is the reason your sense of making various colors has to be quite strong in order to make portraits perfectly.

Celebration Custom T Shirts: How to Design a Party Themed Shirt

Custom T shirts can be fun for all kinds of occasions. When you are going to have a party, you can make it more interesting by ordering some special shirts for the event. All you have to do is to design a shirt that is suitable for the occasion.

For birthday parties, the text would seem obvious. You could put the person’s name and birthday, as well as a happy birthday message. Some people might want to put the age on the shirt, but do so with caution. While a 21 year old might want to proudly announce how old she is, a 50 year old might like to take a pass on giving out that information.

You might use standard birthday images for the custom T shirts. Birthday cakes with candles, birthday presents with huge bows, clowns, or balloons all make festive pictures on party T shirts. If you know someone who can draw a caricature of the birthday person, you might be able to have that printed on the shirt.

Coming of age parties are always great celebrations. Graduation parties are fun for everyone. Sometimes, a graduation party is held at the home of a graduate. Other times, an elaborate party is held at a public venue such as a recreation center lock-in. In either case, you can design T shirts with the class year and school, along with the school mascot.

Custom T shirts can make a bachelor’s or bachelorette’s party more memorable. Since these parties are a celebration of the single life the honoree has led, they can be quite lively. Text and image designs for the T shirts can be a parody of the married life the person will soon have. Some people simply like to focus on the ending of an era of fun times. It is all in fun, and the designs you make need to be lighthearted and humorous.

If you are having a big St. Patrick’s Day party, the celebration will no doubt be a jolly one. Everyone will want to wear green, so get that color for your custom T shirts designs. Of course, use the traditional images of leprechauns, shamrocks, and rainbows with pots of gold. If you prefer, you can simply design a shirt with a saying about Ireland or being Irish. If you use unusual fonts for the letters, they will stand out as being more original.

New Year’s Eve parties are a time for loud merriment. Custom T shirts can help get the party started. Design a shirt that has the year in large numerals. Then, add an image of something that reminds you of an all out bash. Champagne glasses or bottles are always popular. Pictures of noisemakers can be used as well. You might even add something important that happened during the year.

In fact, custom T shirts could be used for any party where people want to remember the event. The special shirt can make the party more fun as it is going on. When you design a shirt, it can also create a lasting memory of the occasion.

The History Of Pens

Having a little trouble sleeping? How about picking up the complete history of pens to help you along to sleep? Actually, that’s not exactly fair. The history of pens is surprisingly interesting. And to be more specific the history of the ballpoint pen is especially interesting.

It all starts out with the famous Cross pen. Cross invented the first stylographic fountain pen, which is the daddy of the ballpoint pen. This invention made the ballpoint pen possible, since no one had come up with an idea quite so innovative up until that point.

The history of pens tells us that the actual true inventor of the ballpoint pen, as we know it today can be credited to Laszlo Jozsef Biro who was from Budapest. His version of the ballpoint pen contained a pressurized ink cartridge. Biro was a journalist and noticed the quick drying capability of the ink used in newspapers. He thought that if that same ink could be used in a pen then the problem of smudged letters would be solved. It was apparently a big problem in those days. In 1938 the ballpoint pen was born.

It wasn’t until 1943 that Biro got a patent for his remarkable pen. In Argentina he became the leading producer of ballpoint pens in that country. The Brits got wind of it and bought the patent. It was found to be particularly useful for pilots because the pressure of high altitudes did not affect the pen. Biro pens were then produced for the Royal Air Force.

The ballpoint pen and the history of pens in general continued to evolve and change through the next decades until now. Today you can find pens in a virtually limitless amount of designs and colors. There are handcrafted ballpoint pens, ones made from fine exotic woods, or even pens made from antlers. The history of pens is one that is long and very diverse. Never has such a small item given the world so much. Try to imagine life without ballpoint pens. Imagine sitting down with an old-fashioned fountain pen and writing up your grocery list.
Ballpoint pens may not be the most technically advanced instrument, but it is an instrument that we could probably not live without. How many times have you had to search for a pen? How many packages of ballpoint pens do you go through in a year?
They disappear for a reason; people steal them because they need them.

Give a quick look at the history of pens the next time you need something to read. You might be surprised at the interesting facts you will find.

Handcrafted Ballpoint Pens Are A Collectors Item

People collect many different things. Some people collect turtles, pigs, and cows, well not actual animals just things made in their image. Why not collect beautiful handcrafted ballpoint pens. It is certainly a more dignified collection than, heaven forbid, beanie babies.

It’s pretty easy to get started collecting handcrafted ballpoint pens. Just do a search on the Internet and you will find a host of sites that are ready to sell you some truly beautiful items. The perfect part about collecting these pens is that they are actually useful. You can write your great American novel using the special handcrafted pen you picked up just for that special use. And when you become a celebrated writer you can tell the world that you wrote the whole thing with your special pen on a roll of Brawny paper towels. Beat that Kerouak.

If you know someone who collects handcrafted ballpoint pens make it a point to check out some of the fabulous offerings you can find on the web. You can find a truly unique gift for your crazy little collector. Personally, I would never buy someone a pig clock just because I know they collect pigs, but I wouldn’t have a problem buying someone a handcrafted ballpoint pen. I guess it’s all in the trailer parkishness of the whole pig thing.

There are even sites online that will teach you how to make your own handcrafted ballpoint pens. Now that’s a hobby someone can get behind. But if you’re not all that handy you can find pens made from exotic woods, metals or even antlers. There is no shortage of materials that these fine gifts can be made from. You would not need to look too far to find a pen that is made from something unique. Just do a search on handcrafted ballpoint pens and you will find a large selection to choose from.

Have someone difficult to buy a gift for? Well, handcrafted ballpoint pens were made for gift giving. Well, actually they were made for writing, but you get my point. They generally will come in a gift-sized box and can be packaged to display their beauty and uniqueness. Pick up a couple of sets and you will always have something on hand to give when you have forgotten to pick up a gift. You will be giving a great writing instrument and a collector’s item all at the same time. Aren’t you the smart shopper?

A Basic Guide to Glycerin Soap Making

Glycerin soap making is probably the easiest method of making soaps compared to the other general soap making techniques. This way you can make the soaps very quickly. Glycerin is a material that has always been popular for the moisturizing properties. It gets dissolved in water pretty easily and often considered to be a good solvent.

Traditionally Glycerin was used as a byproduct in soap production. The homemade soaps with Glycerin in it are the best ones to use. You can purchase the Glycerin for soaps from various stores that sell the candle and soap ingredients as well as the Internet have a number of online stores.

The other materials that you need for Glycerin soap making are soap base, molds, additives and fragrance and oil. First of all you need to boil the soap bases taking them into a container. You can either use a microwave oven for this and in case of large-scale production you can try out a double boiler.

Never forget to cover the container or else the extra moisture will get evaporated and the base will become dry. If you prefer to use the microwave then you need to stir the base after certain intervals to mix the base pieces, which have not melted yet. While using a double boiler simply boil the water and add the base in it.

You can walk away but at the same time keep an eye on the container to check whether the base is already melted or not.

You can add the fragrance and colors of your choice during the procedure. The colors should be added in a small quantity like 1/8th of a teaspoon and never use excess which can result into over staining and can also spoil your hand and the towels that you touch. The fragrances are added at a quantity of around .25v ounce to each pound of base and keep stirring so that it gets dissolved completely.

When Glycerin is added in the base the melting will take time according to the melting point of the raw Glycerin. Usage of Glycerin can result into a clear soap, which is often liked by everybody. Your kid is going to love it if you can put a small toy inside the soap bar. Once the base is melted and all the additives are added to it, you can pour the mixture in to the molds at warm condition. It will take a few hours to cool of and then you can use them or even gift to the friends on various occasions.

Now you need to be careful while buying the Glycerin for your soaps, as there are different qualities available with different suppliers. If the store from where you are buying the glycerin is not an authentic one then there can be impurities present in it.

So select the glycerin that is clear and pure as this is the most important part of Glycerin soap making.

Creative Ways To Use Baskets In Crafts

I have been using baskets for almost all my adult life for the craft projects that I like to do at home and I have been finding that they often can be used in ways that will impress my friends and you will find they will impress your friends too.

All I do is look for ideas in magazines and on television and in stores at the mall and then I set quietly and think about how I might alter those things I have seen so that I can mix and match the elements into some thing completely different and in the process I will have created some thing completely unique and I didnt really do anything other than combine elements of what I see already in the world.

Once I hone in on a thing that I like that includes a basket. I choose a basket as it is beautiful and it gives me a ready made container that will hold my master piece and it is easy to move, give and transport so there is no further assemble on my part or that of the gift recipient. We both appreciate it. It’s easy. That is why I start with a basket.

I find a cheap one as they almost always are and I will chose something to line that basket so it covers the inside. This works especially well if you are using used baskets. This covers the blemishes and looks great and no one ever knows the difference because you can glue the covering to the basket so unless they take it apart the damages are covered for good.

Once I have chosen my basket and the covering to make it look pretty I will be ready to fill it with my favorite things that I found on my treasure hunting adventure trip earlier when I went online or to the mall or in magazines. I take what ever I am putting in and that is when I start placing it together and once I have found the right combination I will start to glue the parts together with good industrial strength glue.

The glue I use is a really good one. An epoxy that you can buy in most any hardware store. I buy mine in either the craft department or the hardware department. Some times one will be cheaper than the other so you need to check the pricing in each. Take your glue and starting with the elements on the bottom of the basket you glue them down and let them dry over night. This assures you will have a sturdy basket that will hold together for a long time.

If you try to glue all at once chances are you will not get it put together solidly and there is a chance it will not stay because the parts will move as you add new elements on top of others. Thus the importance of layering and letting it dry for each layer.

So there you have it a basket made to look great on the cheap with little or no real talent and very little cost. Your friends will love them and you will have the pride of saying you made it yourself.
