Abby’s tooth
Many of a time i get compliments from relatives and friends that my baby ;Abby has her teeth gleaming with glee for a toddler whom eats chocolates and sweets!(Mind you;i am proud and happy with the comments!)
This is because i have put in lots of hard work in trying to keep her teeth from tooth decay or cavities which is one of the major problems even a 1 year old may face.
Here was what i did based on some readings and tips from a dear dentist friend of mine:
1)Begin taking your toddler to the dentist for check-ups early on. Many experts recommend taking your toddler to the dentist by the age of 1 year.I took Abby to my dentist at 8 months!
2)Clean teeth as soon as they appear. It is easiest to use a clean cloth to wipe the teeth and gums of a very young child, but you can also use a very soft toothbrush.I personally am using both. The cloth comes in handy especially when Abby is fussing but when she is not;she actually enjoys the fruity toothpaste on the soft bristles.MAke sure you get tose baby toothbrushes!
3)Brush or wipe teeth and gums at least twice a day, or preferably after all meals and snacks. This is a MUSt!
4)Don’t allow a bottle at bedtime. If you feel you must provide a drink at bedtime make sure it is only water. Milk and juice will inevitably lead to toddler tooth decay.I breastfeed Abby and always cleans her gums and teeths after her suckle.Water to further clear any remaining milk .
5)Use fluoride toothpaste formulated for children.
Yes,it really sounds tiring but hey;atleast i know Abby wont be complaining in years to come:)
