Lets fight obesity!!

There are only 2 ways that really works to combat obesity in children.This weight control plan consist of increasing the physical activities and dietary management.

1) Increasing physical activities

-needed atleast 60 mins a day as recommended by The US Surgeon General

-limit the time for watching tv,playing games

-eliminate snack food during tv hour

-encourage activities done in groups eg cycling,swimming as having friends is so much more fun !

- lead by example and stay active too!

2) Dietary management

- eat more food high in rufage as this maintains satiety in children.

- eliminate pruchasing processed food/junks/sweets

- encourage your child to eat slowly

-have dinner as a family at appropriate hours (take into consideration of digestive time) before sleep

-replace ‘unhealthy snacks’ with ‘healthy snacks’ eg fruits,lowfat yogurt and etc.

 Do gradually introduce these weight control plan as the body needs to adapt too!:)

I took Abby to the Peads today and again;there were some ‘Michelin ‘ Babies….

Children are obese because the calorie intake exceeds the utilisation of energy and all the excess of calories turns to fat….and finally if not monitored-Obesity!

Obesity can be caused by :

1.Genetic factors due to family history eg your family members/parents/grandparents had always had issues being on the ‘heavier’ side.

2.Dietary habit.Consumption of unhealthy diets eg more processed food,junks,snacks which are high in calories have replaced healthy meals and fruits.

3.Lack of activity;-the increasing dependance on tv,playstation has made children introverts which means less physical activities done.Reduces calory usage

4.Snacks in between meals and infront of tv

5.Socioeconomic status where we see children from families of lower incomes are likely to be obese because they are neglected in proper healthy food as both parents are working.
