Credit Protection for parents

January 31st, 2008

To Tell you the truth,i’m sure most parents out there have at least 3 credit cards to name..Especially as a mother,we usually find the ‘plastic’ rather convenient during the grocery shoppings,at petrol pumps ,shopping…shopping…shopping from baby clothes to our own wardrobe.

With so much credit at risk;its always a precaution that i take to ensure that my card is safe with me and steps are practise to avoid theft identity.Ladies,i found out about the availability of ‘Lifelock’ that provides protection from identity theft especially with credit cards.Unfortunately this service is available in the States and i hope it will be available one day in Malaysia!

LifeLock is so efficient that it even provides when you apply for a credit card.LifeLock actually locks down the credit so that you will be the only one able to use the credit! And LifeLock also eliminates the mailing of Pre-Approved credit card offers to your residence;-to avoid any fraud possibilities. This means you’re free from all the ‘unwanted junk mails’ one receives regarding credit cards..:)..Lifelock also has a $1 million gurantee on identity theft which is backed by Lyod!

Lifelock is actually having a promotion now…what a waste for Malaysians!Coz its so easy…as for those that are interested to signup;all you have to do is to use the LifeLock promo code that is provided at the website .This LifeLock promotion codes will entitle you to get a 30 days free trial.Besides the free 30 days trial;the LifeLock code will also get you a 17.5% Annual savings!

Now,how can one agree that this is not superb?

Caring for baby’s teeth

So what is the right way to keep your baby’s teeth clean?I was pretty careful with Abby’s dental hygiene as i wouldnt want cavities or tooth decay for her at such a young age!

A wise dentist gave me these advise which i’d like to share with you:

1. Wipe your baby’s gums daily with a clean, damp washcloth or gauze,

    or

2. Brush them gently with a soft, infant-sized toothbrush and water (no toothpaste!). As soon as the first tooth appears, brush them with water.

3. Toothpaste is OK to use on your child’s teeth once he or she gets old enough to spit it out - usually around age 3. Choose one with fluoride and use only a pea-sized amount or less in younger children. Don’t let your child swallow the toothpaste or eat it out of the tube because an overdose of fluoride can be harmful for children.

4.By the time all your baby’s teeth are in, it’s a good idea to brush your child’s teeth at least twice a day, and especially after meals.

5. Another important tip for preventing tooth decay: don’t let your baby fall asleep with a bottle. The milk or juice can pool in her mouth and cause tooth decay and plaque.

*The American Dental Association recommends that children see a dentist by age 1, when six to eight teeth are in place, to spot any potential problems and advise parents about preventive care.

So,i hope that clears some doubts on dental care for babies:)

Teething

January 30th, 2008

Teething can happen from the 4th month till your baby’s 3rd birthday. And trust me,teething can be stressful for mother and baby!

Daddys and mummys;here are some tips on Do’s and Dont’s during teething period:

  • Wipe baby’s face often with a cloth to remove the drool and prevent rashes from developing.
  • Give your baby something to chew on. Make sure it’s big enough so that he or she can’t swallow it and that it can’t break into small pieces. A wet washcloth placed in the freezer for 30 minutes makes a handy teething aid - just be sure to wash it after each use. *Rubber teething rings are also good, but avoid the ones with liquid inside because   they may break. If you use a teething ring, be sure to take it out of the freezer before it becomes rock hard - you don’t want to bruise those already swollen gums!
  • Rub your baby’s gums with a clean finger.
  • Never tie a teething ring around a baby’s neck, as it could get caught on something and strangle the baby.
  • If your baby seems irritable, acetaminophen may help - but always consult your child’s doctor first. Never place an aspirin against the tooth, and don’t rub whiskey on your baby’s gums.

Have patience..:)

Comforting Baby

January 29th, 2008

If your baby has been crying and being fussy, try these:

a) New positions

  • Hold your baby facedown over your forearm with his head at your elbow and your thumb and fingers wrapped around his thigh.
  • Hold your baby seated in your hand with his back to your chest and your other hand across his chest, wrapping your thumb and fingers around his upper arm.
  • Hold your baby high over your shoulder so his stomach is being pressed into your shoulder bone.
  • Cradle your baby in your arms, holding him tummy-to-tummy tightly against you.
  • b)Rhythmic Motion

  • Walking around.
  • Rocking vertically by doing deep-knee bends.
  • Swaying side to side or back and forth while standing up.
  • Rocking back and forth in a comfortable rocking chair.
  • c)Warmth

  • Swaddle your baby tightly in a receiving blanket.
  • Hold your baby close to you so she can receive your warmth.
  • Put a heating pad in your baby’s sleep area to warm the sheets before putting her down. Take out the heating pad and check the temperature of the sheets to be sure they’re comfortably warm.
  • Lay your baby facedown over a wrapped hot-water bottle on your lap
  • d)Soothing sounds

  • Speak reassuring words in a soft, low voice.
  • Hum and sing familiar songs you enjoy.
  • Make a tape recording of a dishwasher, washing machine, vacuum cleaner or clothes dryer to let your baby hear repeated swooshing sounds. A fan or humidifier in the baby’s room can sometimes do the trick, as can a radio tuned to the static between stations.
  • Play classical, new age, soft rock or soft jazz music. No heavy metal, please! It makes babies nervous.
